Celebrants & religious funerals in Doncaster

Civil celebrants
A funeral celebrant prepares and leads the ceremony. They spend time listening to your memories, learning about the person who has died and understanding how you would like them to be remembered.
A civil celebrant can usually include a prayer or hymn, or lead an entirely non-religious service. They offer flexibility for families who would like a personal farewell without a formal church service.
Your celebrant can help choose music, readings and poems, put the service in order and prepare a tribute. Stories, favourite sayings and gentle humour can all have a place when they feel right for your family.
The celebrant can deliver the tribute and introduce family members who wish to contribute. If you would like to speak but are worried about becoming upset, discuss this beforehand so they can support you or read on your behalf.
Vicars & Church of England funerals
A Church of England funeral is led by a vicar or another authorised minister. It brings together remembrance of the person who has died with prayer, the message of God’s love and the Christian hope of resurrection and eternal life.
Hymns, Bible readings and prayers form part of the service, with space to give thanks for your loved one’s life. The minister will discuss personal memories, music and contributions from family and friends with you.
You do not need to be a regular churchgoer to ask for a Church of England funeral. A service may take place in a church, at a crematorium or by the graveside.

Catholic funerals
A Catholic funeral brings family and friends together to pray for the person who has died and commend them to God’s care. Its prayers and traditions offer comfort through the Church’s faith in resurrection and eternal life.
The funeral may include a Requiem Mass, celebrated by a priest, or a funeral liturgy without Mass, followed by burial or cremation. The priest or parish will guide you through the appropriate form of service, readings and music.
We can help coordinate the practical arrangements with the parish. Personal tributes and other contributions should be discussed with the priest, who can advise on the most suitable time and place for them.
